Virtual Private Networks (VPN)
A Virtual Private Network (VPN) allows you connect computers together
from widely different locations, just as if they were physically in the
same place and connected to the same Local Area Network (LAN).
VPN technology allows your company to have a single secure network to
connect different offices together, or to connect your home office
to your workplace, or even to connect notebook PCs and PDAs while
on the road.
Once connected you can share files, share printers, send e-mails and
instant messages, in fact anything you would normally be able to
do if you were connected to the same LAN.
Here at Digital Design we use VPN technology to seamlessly
connect our various domestic and international locations. We can send
documents to printers in another office, operate remote PCs via our
Remote Control for PCs
software, and even talk to each other toll free using
VoIP.
Instead of having expensive leased lines or dedicated data circuits, VPN
uses the internet and special VPN routers. Your private network
data is encrypted by one router, sent over the internet to another VPN router,
decrypted, and then sent to its final destination.
VPN equipment is commonly available, however the setup and configuration
can be a nightmare.
At Digital Design we have been running our own VPN for a
number of years. The health of our network is critical to our company, and
we have already learned all the dos and don'ts necessary to run
a reliable VPN connecting multiple domestic and international locations.
This places us in an ideal position to design and install a VPN custom
built for your needs.
