Custom Built Servers

All of our servers run Linux.

While we do use Windows for workstations, we will not use Windows in mission critical applications such as web servers, file servers, and RAID systems. When the highest level of reliability is required Linux is the best choice for these applications.

Even though our servers run Linux, they do support Windows file and print sharing. This makes them perfectly suitable for use as the file server on a network of Windows PCs.

At Digital Design it is our policy to only sell to our customers what we are actively using ourselves. When you buy a server from us you are not just getting a standard Linux server that you could get from someone else. We have added many features to improve reliability, and increase your company's productivity.

These include:

• SPAM blocking. We have written our own multilayer e-mail filtering software because we could not find a product that we were happy with. Our mail management software also works in cooperation with our abuse detection software to not only block SPAM but to firewall the source if necessary.

• Virus detection. A complete check of all critical system files is performed every four hours. You will be automatically alerted to the presence of a virus, or any other form of unauthorized system change.

• Abuse detection and dynamic firewalling. Denial of Service (DoS) attacks can cripple a web server. Our software continuously monitors all user activity, and if any form of abuse is detected, such as a DoS attack, that user is immediately firewalled. This makes our servers exceptionally resilient to attacks.

• Detection of unauthorized login attempts and intruders. You are immediately notified if an unknown user attempts to gain access to the server.

• Automatic notification of system problems, or unusually heavy loads on the server.

• Automatic daily backup, stored on the server itself, and also transmitted to another on-site machine, and one off-site machine. This covers failure of the server itself, as well as a wider problem such as a building fire.

• Log file processing. Web server access logs are post-processed and permanently archived for your records.
