PBX / VoIP Phone Systems
VoIP (Voice Over IP) technology has been around for a number of years
and offers low (or even zero) cost long distance phone calls.
VoIP offers a call quality comparable to, and in some cases better than,
existing phone lines. However it is only as strong as the network that
is carrying it.
When combined with your company's existing Virtual Private Network (VPN)
it offers a zero cost way to connect all of your branch offices into a
single unified phone system. We use it ourselves to connect our multiple
US and New Zealand locations. Now calling someone in another office or
another country is as simple as dialing an extension.
In our experience VoIP communication over our VPN within the US is close
to perfect. For communications between the US and New Zealand the voice
quality is generally better than what we have over a conventional phone
line. However as there are more network issues involved over this
distance we do experience the occasional drop out, but as VoIP is saving
us hundreds of dollars a month on our phone bills these issues become
insignificant.
In addition to VoIP over VPN, we can interface your system to third
party VoIP providers that offer:
- Unlimited free off-network calling to the US and Canada for as
little as $29.95/month, and extremely low international rates.
- Local phone numbers in different cities and even
different countries. For example if you have a lot of
customers in the United Kingdom you can have a local UK number that
your customers can call toll free. All calls are routed through the
internet to your current office.
- Toll free US 1-800 numbers for as little as $1.95/month
extra.

Once our PBX is connected to your network, various SIP or IAX
phone adapters
are placed around your offices to connect your existing analog phones.
While special VoIP phones are available, they are still reasonably
expensive at this time, and there is no need to abandon your existing
telephones.
Various VoIP line adapters are also available to connect your existing
analog phone lines into the system so they are answered by the PBX.

When traveling, there are a number of Soft Phone programs available.
These are programs that run on your notebook PC or PDA and use the
internet to connect into the PBX. Your soft phone always has the same
extension number no matter where you happen to be. And if you're not
connected the PBX simply directs your calls to voicemail.
