Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Why do I need to monitor my website?
If your customers cannot connect to your website or server you cannot
make sales. It is that simple.
If you have a simple webhosting account with an ISP you are
relying on them to ensure that the servers keep running, and all the
networking routers and switches are operating correctly. Some companies are
good, many are not. However if we monitor your website for you you'll know
within minutes if there is a problem, and you can then get it fixed
promptly.
If you run your own server you are responsible for your own equipment.
Servers can go down for numerous reasons, including Denial of Service
(DoS) attacks, viruses, hackers, or simply badly written
software. If you don't know about it your web server could be
down for days before a customer finally complains.
However if we monitor your server we'll notify you within minutes if there is
a problem.
We frequently see outages that are not caused by the servers themselves,
but by the networking routers, switches, and connections within a
company. As we're monitoring your website just as a real-world customer
would access it, we can alert you to all of these problems as well.
What can I monitor?
You can monitor any website, SSL website, or FTP site
(any http, https, or ftp URL).
This can be a webhosting account with an ISP, a leased
or co-located server, or your own server.
How am I notified when there is a problem?
As soon as a problem is detected an alert e-mail is sent to your
e-mail accounts, cellphones or pagers, and our
autodialer makes direct dial phone calls to the list of phone numbers
you provide.
What do I hear when the autodialer calls me?
The autodialer plays a standard message notifying you of the problem.
You can listen to the autodialer message here:
Is this service restricted to the United States?
NO. Your server can be anywhere in the world, and the list of contacts
can be anywhere in the world.
